USS Michael Murphy: Named For MOH Navy SEAL Michael Murphy

Lt. Michael Murphy was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic efforts to save his fellow SEALS in Kunar Province, Afghanistan in 2005. He and his four colleagues were spotted by three goat herders, one of which was a child, and chose not to kill them--despite having the authority to do so. The goat herders apparently did not return the favor and quickly reported having seen the SEALS to Taliban forces. The four men were soon trapped in a "bowl" and were unable to use their satellite phone to call for support. Lt. Murphy moved to a position where he was able to successfully place the call; he was shot in the process. By the end of the fight, only Petty Officer Marcus Luttrell was left alive. You can read Petty Officer Luttrell's account in his book, Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10.
